      <image:caption>Artistic Director and faculty Icelandic violinist Sibbi Bernhardsson is Professor of Violin at Oberlin Conservatory. He was previously violinist for 17 years with the Pacifica Quartet, with which he won a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance, Musical America Ensemble of the Year honors, and the Avery Fisher Career Grant among other honors. As a member of the Pacifica Quartet, Bernhardsson appeared in more than 90 concerts worldwide each year, including engagements in Wigmore Hall (London), the Vienna Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Suntory Hall (Tokyo), Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall (New York), and other major venues. He has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, Ravinia, Music@Menlo, and the Reykjavík Arts Festival, and has collaborated with Menahem Pressler, Yo-Yo Ma, Jörg Widmann, Lynn Harrell, Leon Fleisher, the Emerson String Quartet, Johannes Moser, and members of the Guarneri and Cleveland quartets. His television appearances include The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, and the MTV Europe Music Awards with Icelandic artist Björk. He appears on 16 recordings with the Pacifica Quartet and has recorded the violin music of Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson and the sonatas for violin and piano by Franz Schubert. Bernhardsson serves as director of strings at Oberlin Conservatory, director of the Cooper International Violin Competition at Oberlin and as artistic director of Iceland’s Harpa International Music Academy (HIMA). In the summers, he teaches at HIMA, Encore, Tanglewood Music Center, and Music Academy of the West. He gives regular concerts and master classes in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and has appeared as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland, and other ensembles. Bernhardsson is a 1995 graduate of Oberlin Conservatory. His teachers include Guðný Guðmundsdóttir, Almita and Roland Vamos, Mathias Tacke, and Shmuel Ashkenasi.       <image:caption>August 13 - 18, 2023. Day camp for young string players ages 7 - 12. During this six-day camp, intermediate to advanced young string players (violin, viola, cello) will build their technique, learn ensemble skills through chamber music and build friendships through making music in group classes and coachings. Participants will receive: Daily lessons Daily chamber music coachings Chamber orchestra experience Final day performance - opportunity for solo and ensemble performances Daily lunch One admissions pass for the student participant to Lakeside Chautauqua (access to wellness and fitness center, recreational activities and other programs) valid for the festival dates Camp hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. HIMA-USA will not provide supervision of children outside of the camp hours. All camp instructional activities (lessons, coachings, master classes) will take place at the Danbury Schools located adjacent to the Lakeside Chautauqua main gates.       <image:title>2022 String Quartet Fellows - Cong - Cong Quartet</image:title>
      <image:caption>A string quartet in demand based in Hong Kong &amp; the Netherlands, which has performed around Asia, Europe &amp; the United States, Cong Quartet was the first prize and Grand Prize winner at the 2019 Salzburg Mozart International Chamber Competition in Tokyo and the 2nd prize in the 2021 Kreutzer International Competition in Belgium and was a finalist of several international chamber music competitions including the 2021 Storioni Competition in Eindhoven. The quartet is currently the Artist in Residence of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) music department, where they held the role of the Ensemble-in-Residence from 2019 to 2021. Supported by the Emerging Artists Scheme of the Hong Kong Art Development Council (ADC) and the Stichting Utopia (The Utopia Foundation), Cong Quartet is a currently participating in the Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie (NSKA) in the Netherlands, and participate the Musethica sessions around Europe. The members of the quartet has previously attended the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar &amp; the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute in New York, the Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar at The Heifetz International Music Institute, the Intensive String Quartet seminar at Music Academy Hörpu in Iceland, the Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy in Japan, the Chamber Music Residency in Great Mountain Music Festival in South Korea sponsored by the Artsylvia Foundation, and many other chamber music seminars and festivals. They have also coached and taught many young chamber groups at CUHK, the Madeline Island Chamber Music and the Indiana University Summer String Academy. Cong Quartet’s important mentors include Marc Danel and Luc-Marie Aguera at NSKA, Pacifica Quartet at Indiana University, Shmuel Ashkenasi &amp; Nicholas Kitchen at the Heifetz Institute, Ivan Chan at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the Borromeo, Dover, Ebène, Juilliard &amp; Shanghai Quartet. Our members have studied with musicians of the Borodin, Guarneri, Takacs, Tokyo &amp; Ying Quartets individually. They have also collaborated and performed with world-renowned artists such as Yuri Bashmet, Joshua Bell, Jorja Fleezanis, Antonio Lysy, Mai Motobuchi and Rachell Wong among others. Cong Quartet believes that the humanistic experience of chamber music is a treasure to the community. They share the philosophy of promoting chamber repertoire from their generation and from their hometown, Hong Kong, as well as integrating chamber music into the daily lives of the audiences. The name of the quartet, “CONG” originated as a combination of the quartet founding members’ last names that allude to Hong “Kong”, which is where the members grew up and played together since their teenage years before the Quartet was officially formed at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in the United States in 2015. Highlights of their recent seasons included concert tours in New York, Japan, Germany, Netherlands and France, performed as guest artists in recitals at various universities across the United States and a residency at the Composers Forum of the University of North Texas. They have also performed and were guest judges of the New Generation call-for-score competition of Hong Kong Composers' Guild, and enjoy regular collaborations with local venues, universities &amp; organizations in Hong Kong such as Hong Kong Arts Festival, Musicus Society, Tai Kwun, West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong Jockey Club, World Culture Festival, City University, Asia Society, St. John‘s Cathedral and many others.       <image:caption>The Terra String Quartet, formerly known as the Arte String Quartet, is a vibrant young ensemble based in New York City composed of graduates of the Juilliard School’s prestigious Honors Program and of the Manhattan School of Music. Hailing from five continents, these four musicians share a vision that chamber music embodies both intellectual and emotional vitality. Members of the quartet have performed around the world at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall in New York City, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, France, Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, South Korea, Daegu Concert House in Daegu, South Korea, and Vienna Musikverein in Vienna, Austria, among others. They have played alongside such musicians as Robert McDonald, Ida Kavafian, Natasha Brofsky, Anthony Marwood, Augustin Dumay, Gary Hoffman, and Laurence Lesser. They have also attended music festivals including the Ravinia Steans Young Artist Program, Yellow Barn, Music@Menlo, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Prussia Cove, and the Seiji Ozawa International Academy. They have also performed with the Cremona Quartet and have studied under the guidance of Ara Gregorian, Mark Steinberg, Hye-Jin Kim, Misha Amory, Daniel Avshalamov, Natasha Brofsky, Catherine Cho, and Joseph Lin. They were recently named finalists in the 2022 Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition.
