2023 String Quartet Intensive Ensembles

Solideo Quartet

2023 Fellowship Quartet

Hailing from the four borders of the United States, the Solideo Quartet is a promising string quartet eager to explore music that has withstood time past and present. Just as each member comes from a different part of the nation, the quartet seeks to share that chamber music can bring people from diverse communities together into unity. The Solideo Quartet recently graduated from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as the Graduate String Quartet in Residence with the admired mentors and internationally-acclaimed Jupiter Quartet. The Solideo Quartet has worked closely with the Jupiter Quartet, Dover Quartet, Miro Quartet, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Masumi Per Rostad, Dmitri Murrath, Francisco Fullana, Axel Strauss, and Charles Castleman. They have received masterclasses with artists from the Pacifica, Cavani, Vermeer, and Concord Quartets. In 2021 they were selected as finalists in the Coltman Chamber Competition, and were third prize winners in the chamber division of the American Prize. Furthermore, the Solideo Quartet offered its Midwestern debut with countertenor Reggie Mobley at the Carthage College Fine Arts Series and performed and taught during their first visiting string quartet residency at Illinois Wesleyan University. In their first year together, they appeared as the Emerging String Quartet in Residence for Community Engagement at the Music in the Vineyards Festival in Napa Valley, and also appeared at the Centrum Chamber Music Festival.. The Solideos hold leading positions in the Illinois Modern Ensemble, and have premiered more than four contemporary string quartets during their first year at UIUC. The Solideo Quartet looks forward to delving deeper into both new and traditional string quartet repertoire and supporting the works of contemporary composers by bringing music to diverse communities, thus creating positive change as people of different circumstances are brought together through shared emotions and understanding.

Concordia Quartet

Concordia Quartet is a Singapore-based quartet that is part of a non-profit musicians collective, Resound Collective. The quartet made its debut in February 2020, and consists of four prize-winning musicians – Edward Tan, Kim Kyu Ri, Martin Peh and Lin Juan.

Immediately following their debut, Concordia Quartet was part of the cast in Wild Rice’s The Importance of Being Earnest. When Covid-19 pandemic restrictions prevented events in concert halls, the quartet staged two live streamed concerts, in June and September 2020. Their highly innovative June 2020 live broadcast involved players performing from their homes, and was highlighted in the September issue of BBC Music Magazine.

In early 2021, Concordia Quartet partnered the wind principals of Re:Sound Chamber Orchestra, and they were finally able to play to a live audience in October 2021.

In the first half of 2022, while violinist Kim Kyu Ri spent a semester in New York on postgraduate studies, the quartet’s members worked as a piano quartet with acclaimed composer and pianist Jonathan Shin. On Kim’s return, the string quartet took part in Pacific Region International Summer Music Association (PRISMA) in Canada as string quartet-inresidence in June 2022, and thereafter presented a concert in Singapore in July 2022.

With strong beliefs in community outreach, Concordia Quartet has presented a Christmas concert two years in a row at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome, and are part of National Arts Council’s Arts Education Programme in their 2023-2025 cycle, reaching out to schools in Singapore and nurturing the next generation of classical music lovers.

Concordia Quartet has received masterclasses and coaching from the Lafayette Quartet, Verona Quartet, Nobuko Imai, Pavlo Beznosiuk, Igor Yuzefovich, Carla Leurs, Hung-Wei Huang, Brian Yoon and Leslie Tan.
